CONSULTATION:
Many families come to me with concerns about their child's reading. As a parent, they know when something isn't "just right". With a background in assessments, identifying students' strengths and needs, and certifications in dyslexia and structured literacy, I can complete an informal evaluation, which will help identify areas that are common for dyslexic characteristics. After gathering background information and conducting informal assessments, we can discuss your child's strengths and weaknesses in reading, and recommendations will be made to help you support your child. Parents often share this information with their child's teacher to help start the conversation for planning for effective strategies. Even though I am certified as a Dyslexia Specialist, I am not qualified to diagnose dyslexia. This is done by trained personnel, usually from a medical field with a background in standardized assessments. You can find out more information in Ohio's Dyslexia Guidebook, as well as talk to your child's school district.
